Approval of Minutes from January 16, 2024
The January 16, 2024 minutes were approved by Alina, seconded by Clancy

Expressed gratitude for all volunteers, time, and school staff
Teacher Presentation - Cathy Charlton-Brennan & Katrina Boyce
Katrina:
Science curriculum changed this year, works very well with three grades as concepts that
repeat year after year and build on each year
Talking about Energy of Movement (Grade 1), Light and Sound (Grade 2), Forces (Grade 3)
Grade 1s had to design a marble track and influence movement of the marbles
Grade 2s designed an instrument
Grade 3s designed a machine
Just had Teacher’s Convention, one session was outside in Fish Creek and talked about
incorporating the land into Grade 1/2/3 science.
Was it in conjunction with Scientists in Schools?
Cathy:
Classes made musical videos – showing underwater scene to music, showing passing balls to
the beat and tempo of the music, xylophones
March 15 th is next Meet Me at the Symphony concert
Will be attending Vancouver Musical Conference
There will be a Jazz Concert Assembly in March, dates to be provided
Administration Update – Lea Sherwood & Cori Braun

Staffing Updates:
- Ms. Tolton – Ms. MacQuarrie will be taking over in Room 12
- Ms. Aiello has returned
- Hiring a 15hr Educational Assistant
- Hiring a NHS/ Ms. Knight has been hired on as a substitute for CBE and will be leaving
Killarney School
Learning Disruption Funding will be with Ms. Aiello working with small groups for Literacy
(Grade 2-4)
Kindergarten Registration – had 159 Expressions of Interest, offered placement to 75
Kindergartens, Offered placement to 9 Grade 1s, Offered placement to 1 Grade 2
Families have 10 days to accept or decline position at Killarney school, and then continue to
add placements, as needed. Expect to land at ~65 students for Kindergarten next year.
Engagement Meeting is happening next month, formal meeting to let parents know where
school development plan is, where funding is for the school, questions can be asked
Anti-Racism Education for Upper Elementary weekly for 6-7 weeks
Assurance Survey for Grade 4 students – closes March 1st
KSC Updates

Thank you to parents for coming to Paul Davis internet safety night, thank you to
Sharlene for coordinating that evening with other CBE schools
Thank you to volunteers for Killarney school Open House last month
Spread the Love Campaign to promote kindness across the school
Thank you to Healthy Hunger volunteers on February 8 th . Next Healthy Hunger lunch
is on March 7 th .
Volunteers – Clancy Khezri
February Spread the Love Campaign, 10 bakers made delicious treats for the teachers
Casino Update – Remi Loyer
We received almost $80,843.73 from the casino event in October for Killarney School.
Represents almost 260 volunteer hours for this event.
Next casino is Q4 2025
Almost $4,000 per month over 48 months between casinos
New Business
Killarney Annual Fundraiser – February 26 th – March 24 th
Sharlene: Will be a GoFundMe page for donations, will be communicated to parents via social media, weekly updates, and brochures that will go home with students, will have a QR code to go to the website directly
Will be prize draws for people who donate March 11 th will be Early Bird Draw and will have Early Bird Prizes
Goal is $25,000, raised just about that last year
Question from Christie: Is the GoFundMe page open year round for employers to donate? Yes, the page is open year round, campaign is larger push for this, wait until next week for this. Tax receipts are issued right from there.
Some companies have matching programs that can be used through Benevity, etc., and those are accepted in the platform.

School Playground Project
Clancy: looking into forming a committee to build a new playground as the current
playground is nearing end of life at 25 years old.
Grants are available, the project takes a few years.
Email Clancy if anyone is interested in this project and being on this playground
committee at vice-chair@killarneyschoolcouncil.ca
Lea S. has put out an inquiry to Facilities to learn more about this process.
Montessori Moment – Lea Sherwood
Focus on Citizenship. SDP Wellness Goal is to Develop an understanding of what it means to be a citizen of Killarney
Killarney Connects is working on making connections across other grades with students and staff
Community and Social skills – students learn to interact, collaborate, and develop social skills. Work in mixed age groups, promoting a sense of community and cooperation.
Peace Education – strong emphasis on peace education, teaching children on conflict resolution, empathy, and understanding
